Got this myself on my phone, and also it simply refused to upgrade. Below's what benefited me.

Edit: this seems to be a problem that Facebook recognize. It's an issue with the Facebook application, as well as not a generalised Play Store concern.

This is what benefited me at least.

  1. Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Shop, Clear data as well as Clear cache

  2. Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Provider > Manage area, Clear all information and Clear cache


It doesn't hurt if you restart your phone before you try updating facebook again. And, the install was SLOW. Simply at the very least 4-5 minutes. But, it did work. If not try to uninstall it, or merely wait on a solution.
